Self-esteem

In psychology, the term self-esteem is used to describe a person’s overall sense of self-worth or personal value. In other words, how much you appreciate and like yourself.

  • Self-esteem is often seen as a personality trait, which means that it tends to be stable and enduring.
  • Self-esteem can involve a variety of beliefs about yourself, such as the appraisal of your own appearance, beliefs, emotions, and behaviors.

Self-esteem reflects an individual’s overall subjective emotional evaluation of their own worth. It is the decision made by an individual as an attitude towards the self. Self-esteem encompasses beliefs about oneself,
(for example, “I am competent”, “I am worthy”), as well as emotional states, such as triumphdespairpride, and shame. Smith and Mackie (2007) defined it by saying “The self-concept is what we think about the self; self-esteem, is the positive or negative evaluations of the self, as in how we feel about it.”

What is Self-esteem?

It is the way that people thinks about themselves, if they are worth it, and it is the confidence that you have in yourself that you can trust yourself when you are doing something. It is also how you give worth and value yourself. Self-esteem your strength when you are performing or doing something. You believe in yourself that you can do what you want and achieve the goals that have set.
